The thrill of knockout football returns to the UAE as the prestigious **President’s Cup Round of 16** kicks off this Thursday. Six elite teams are set to face off in three high-stakes fixtures, promising a day of intense action and tactical drama. At **Business Promotion24**, we bring you the latest insights and previews as the road to the final begins.
### Al Jazira vs. Ajman: The Early Kick-Off
The action starts at 5:00 PM local time, with runners-up **Al Jazira** taking on **Ajman**. Despite coming off two consecutive draws in the UAE Pro League against Al Nasr and Kalba, Al Jazira remains a formidable force, currently sitting at the top of the league table.
Coach **Cosmin Olariou** expressed confidence but cautioned against complacency. *”We respect Ajman, and I know this will be a difficult match. The result of knockout matches depends on trivial details,”* Olariou stated. Star player **Vinicius Mello** echoed this sentiment, urging the team to maintain full focus to secure a spot in the next round.
On the other side, Ajman, currently 7th in the league, is looking for a fresh start after a recent defeat to Sharjah. Coach **Goran Tufegdzic** acknowledged Al Jazira’s attacking prowess but insisted his squad is prepared for the challenge.
### The Heavyweight Clash: Al Ain vs. Shabab Al Ahli
The highlight of the evening is undoubtedly the 8:00 PM clash at Rashid Stadium between defending champions **Al Ain** and the tournament’s most successful club, **Shabab Al Ahli**.
Shabab Al Ahli holds a record 10 President’s Cup titles, while Al Ain follows closely with eight. Although Shabab Al Ahli recently defeated Al Ain 2-0 in a league match, Al Ain coach **Vladimirivic** believes the cup is a different beast entirely.
*”The league result will have no bearing on the President’s Cup. This tournament demands full focus and discipline. Small mistakes can make big differences,”* Vladimirivic remarked. Fans can expect a tactical masterclass as Al Ain pushes for successive titles against a historic rival.
### Al Wasl vs. Kalba: Battle at Zabeel Stadium
Simultaneously with the early kick-off, **Al Wasl** will host **Kalba** at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai. Al Wasl coach **Rui Vitoria** has vowed to deliver a strong performance, emphasizing the significance of this competition to the club.
*”We are up against a tough opponent, but we will approach the game with all our strength to continue our run,”* Vitoria said. For Kalba, this represents a massive opportunity to cause an upset and progress in the UAE’s most prestigious domestic tournament.
